We have re-branded the festival. Please join us at the Ottawa Canadian🍁 Film Festival.

This year, I joined thousands of other film fans who have taken on the challenge to watch 52 films directed by women in 2016.  It’s part of a campaign using the hashtag #52filmsbywomen.  I’m throwing in an additional twist and making them all Canadian films.

My selection for week 3 is the film The Altruist (2015) by director Micheline Lanctôt.

Micheline Lanctôt was born in Frelighsburg, Quebec. Her post-secondary education was in music, fine arts and theatre at Collège Jésus-Marie in Outremont, and in art history (at the Université de Montréal and the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal) before switching to film animation, which she did originally at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and then at Gerald Potterton’s studios, Potterton Productions, where she remained for four years.
